Education Notes 8-21-21 | TheLancasterNews.com
Free lunches for all: The Lancaster School District provides free school meals to all students who register. Requests for free / reduced meals should be filled out by all who wish to receive them, so that District Food Services can follow the program this year. The app is available at https://family.titank12.com or the district website, lancastercsd.com, under Apps or under the Meals tab. No lunch visitors are allowed in schools.
District food services move to a new platform: The Lancaster County School District Food Service Department switched to a new web platform this summer for better service to students, families and staff. The new platform, Titan School Solutions, is part of the LinQ family, which includes the programs the district uses.
Titan allows the neighborhood to integrate multiple services and includes a new family account option for meals. While individual student accounts are always available, a family account allows multiple students to pay for their meals from a single account.
The district transferred student account balances to Titan. Parents will need to go to family.titank12.com to create individual or family accounts. Each student’s PowerSchool number is required to register.
Requests for free and reduced meals can also be completed in the new program. Families do not need to create an account to complete a meal request.
The district offers disability screening: Lancaster County School District’s Child Find program searches for people with disabilities, ages 3 to 21, who need special help in order to receive free and appropriate public education.
If there appears to be a delay in any area of your child’s development – even if they are not yet of school age – contact the district student services department at 803-285-8439 to arrange screening. and evaluation.
Preschool programs for children with special needs provide early intervention services and may prevent some developmental disabilities from getting worse.
Apply for service academy appointments: Applicants interested in attending one of the four service academies – the US Military Academy, the US Naval Academy, the US Air Force Academy or the US Merchant Marine Academy – can submit applications to Senator Tim Scott until at 5 p.m. on October 16. Scott will nominate up to 40 students from across South Carolina to be considered for a date.
Students must submit an application consisting of two essays, SAT / ACT scores, high school transcripts and three letters of recommendation. For details, call the service academy coordinator at 803-771-6112.
