Stark County District Library offers summer fun school
In partnership with The Repository, every Monday, the Stark Community Foundation highlights positive events in our community. Here are some good news Mondays!
To tackle learning loss, keep children in our community on track and ensure families receive the support they need to be successful, Stark District Library, with support from the Sisters Foundation of Charity in Canton, partners with schools in the city of Canton to encourage summer reading and learning with Summer Fun School programming.
In addition to its usual methods of preventing learning loss during the summer months through the Summer Challenge and early literacy programs, the Stark Library Bookmobile will visit locations in Canton, providing books, activities and summer activity kits for Canton City school children from Kindergarten to Grade 3. Activities are designed to develop reading, math and science skills. Families can track their progress to enter a weekly draw for a gift card for necessities such as groceries or gasoline.
The library district also knows that it is difficult to learn on an empty stomach. Through a partnership with the Children’s Hunger Alliance, it also offers free take-out meals throughout the week at six locations in Canton: Ellisdale Homes, Jackson Sherrick, Linwood Acres, Mahoning Manor, Schreiber School and Skyline Terrace.
